#779124 Pokemon

Posted by Metdevil on 26 November 2017 - 04:35 PM

Heads up. Farfetch’d is now unlocked, for 48 hours I believe. I can see one on my radar at the local park. Double xp, double stardust and 6 hour lures were also unlocked as part of the Global Catch Challenge.

Gotta catch em all!

Awesome! Might have to go find one tonight :)

#769347 The wonderful world of NZ Politics

Posted by Metdevil on 06 September 2017 - 11:20 AM

Jacinda Ardern is currently on site at my work. She's doing a meet and greet at the cafeteria this afternoon, but I won't be able to go out to see her, nobody to cover my job :(
Would've been cool to see her, the politicians never come down this way.
It's good to see her visiting the average working man though :)

#769301 Knack 2 currently free on PSN store

Posted by Metdevil on 06 September 2017 - 09:00 AM

Hey guys, it's likely an error, but Knack 2 is currently showing as free on the NZ/AU store. I've 'purchased' it without running into any hidden costs and it's currently downloading now.
Grab it before it's fixed

EDIT: They've fixed it now. GG to everyone who got in in time :)

#750105 Why has a game resonated with you?

Posted by Metdevil on 22 March 2017 - 02:34 PM

Beyond: Two Souls.
Many people saw this as one acid trip of a game. But I just happened to be playing it during the sudden death of someone close to me. Unortunately, that's what it took for me to really hammer the point of this game home.

I actually wrote something about it a few years back on PST.org.

The creator of the game came up with the story when he lost someone close to him... I wasn't expecting it to be a nice, up-beat, happy game.

In saying that, there were a few parts that were sad/depressing but in a happy way (if that makes any sense. If not, spoiler-time)

Yea, it does have a miserable story, but that's the idea. The game is literally based around death and suffering, but it's done in a way that kind of makes you appreciate and deal with death.

I lost someone close to me (my mother-in-law) in the same week that I was playing Beyond, and sadly, that's what it took to see this game for what it was actually meant to be.

David Cage obviously wrote the game based around his personal experiences with the death of a loved one. After my mother-in-law passed away (again, in the same week I was playing the game [talk about poor timing]), I realised just how personal David Cage's story really is.

Ultimately, I think that this game would've been ruined by adding some 'happy-ending' twist to it. I think it's perfect the way it is.

To date, Beyond is the only game that's made me cry. Like legitimately bawl, not in a tear-jerking story-telling way. Beyond actually helped me through a tough time, helping me cope with and understand loss, and I actually enjoyed it. I went back and played a total of eight full playthroughs, enjoying every minute of it.
It's tough to explain, but Beyond became my way of 'being with' my mother-in-law after she passed away. My way of speaking with her, letting her know that I missed her.

I also don't think that it was a coincidental thing either (I don't have this attachment simply because this was the game that I was playing at the time), but rather because of the message of the game (the timing was just uncanny). I think that's why I think I'll always have this connection with Beyond: Two Souls.

Even now, I feel ridiculous for typing this out, but isn't that the point of this thread? :P

#746469 Achievements/trophies You Just Got

Haha, I thought you just didn't like me ;(

Awesome, thanks for the feedback! I just got a Steam Link and controller, considering finally getting ahold of it!

:o How could you even think that, Tufts :(

If you like stealth Skyrim style, with magic and swords, then you should like it.
Don't be afraid to screw up either (one of Dishonored 1's biggest issues was punishing you for doing something 'wrong'), play around with your skills available to you and have fun with it.
You can combine a few powers for some really interesting results.

Just got the platinum for Dishonored 2 today, puts me at 92 Platinums but only 4 earned this year :P

What did you think of it?

Better than Dishonered 1?

Sorry, missed this post

Yea, I loved it. Great game. I really enjoyed it. Did four playthroughs for the platinum and enjoyed all of it.

Much better than the first one.

#745556 Today I....

Posted by Metdevil on 16 February 2017 - 01:36 AM

Damn son, where'd you get those frames from?? I want to copy it! Haha (I have so many PS1 and 2 games asking for this)

I actually made them myself
The frames are just standard 11x14 frames with some plastic spacers to separate the glass from the backing (you can get this done at any photography store).
Then I bought just a stack of slimline CD/DVD cases like these: http://www.rpadistri...MLINE_HIRES.jpg
The FFIX one I did used coloured cases to match the artwork on the disc, like these ones:http://cdn3.volusion....jpg?1484220159

Then I cut out the hub in the middle of the case which holds the disc and just hot-glued it onto a piece of black card.
To complete the look, I actually went to a jeweller and had them engrave a plaque for it. That's only held on by double-sided tape :P

In all, it cost me probably about $40-50 per frame, though I think there would be ways to cut on the cost. 11x14 frames are common enough that you could get one for $8 from the warehouse, you'd also be able to space the glass with pieces of rubber matching the frame or card. Those CD cases are also really cheap online.
And I really don't think a plaque is necessary in most cases :P that was, admittedly, overkill. Though it does make them look legit :P
(Still, it was embarassing going into the jeweller and asking for "Final Fantasy IX" to be engraved onto a plaque )

#744269 Today I....

Posted by Metdevil on 02 February 2017 - 08:47 PM

Today I...

Was moving some of my random gaming stuff around in and out of storage and got a little bit sad about some of my favourite games having never seen light in a decade :(
So I bought a frame, cut out some CD case hubs, and even had a plaque engraved.
I went all out and framed my copy of Final Fantasy IX and I'm so stoked with the end result :D

I think I got a pretty professional-looking result

#741944 The parents thread

Posted by Metdevil on 07 January 2017 - 06:50 PM

Oh dear.......I had one of those children lol. Actually correction, I STILL have one of those children.
I love her to bits and she's an amazing adult (she's now 26 and a mother herself) but I tell you, she still doesn't care about consequences lol.
Tidy your room or it goes in the rubbish bag - she'd get the rubbish bag
Eat your dinner or go without dessert / go to bed - she'd toddle off to bed.
I did find that talking to her once she was older (obviously 2 is a wee bit young) helped a little and it's meant the relationship we have now (sometimes) is pretty good

Yep, that's her in a nutshell :P
