#780647 Thanks NZG Thread!

Posted by CoffeeAddict on 17 December 2017 - 09:25 AM

Just a big thank you to all the team at NZGamer. This is the first website that i really got my teeth into the forums. Some amazing characters over the years a pretty respectful forum. First website that I actually won prizes from. I hope that when the forums close that there is a new home for all the gaming and non gaming chat that occurs in the NZGamer forums.

I don't want to have to go back to that other place

 What other place?

#779655 Micro Transactions and Lootboxes! It gets worse?!?!

Posted by CoffeeAddict on 02 December 2017 - 07:53 PM

Hey there DM, how i see it though it may not be right.

Differences -

Trading cards -> Physical entity that part of the enjoyment is trading and collecting the whole/improving your set.

Lootboxes -> (when referring to the ones in games) > Non physical entity - limited/no trading available depending on game in question. Often breaking them down loses a lot of the in game value.

Trading cards -> You start trading cards for the cards themselves (perhaps sticker books pull you in). They may come in cereals as a taster but you get into them for the collecting/trading

Lootboxes -> Often (but not always) unwanted extra to a game you bought.

Trading cards -> you are buying something, it has value, this may go up or down depending on the one but you get 5-6 cards and you can trade them at any time. Maybe near worthless in 10 years or maybe worth thousands. Its not gambling, it could in fact be seen as investing (poorly i know but not gambling).

Lootboxes -> The item often has no or limited commercial value once you have paid for it. You are doing it to heighten or improve an experience. Some things you can trade and gain money if their is an open system where you can trade with other players but this is often not the case. I dont know if this constitutes gambling or rather just chucking money down the toilet.

BUT

Similarities

- Both have an element of chance, a potential to get an item of higher value.

- Both can prey on peoples addictive natures.

- Both in my opinion are a waste of money.

Anyway thats just my thoughts after months of this sh*t with loot boxes and micro transactions going around.

On a lighter note i miss the heated discussions. It was great being a popcorn spectator

#779561 Games You've Actually Completed Recently

Posted by CoffeeAddict on 01 December 2017 - 07:05 PM

Yeah i would rate syndicate,

1. AC 2 Brotherhood - hell yeah

2. AC 4 Blackflag

3. AC 2

4. AC Syndicate

5. AC 2 Revalations

6. AC 1

7. AC 3

8. AC Unity

Honestly i got bored of unity, no glitches just bored. AC 3 hinted at the greatness that AC 4 would be whilst being a shambles. Next yeah once the dust has settled i'll crack on with Origins.

#779177 Grinding!

Posted by CoffeeAddict on 27 November 2017 - 01:08 PM

Currently dont have the same kinda time that i used to when i used to. FFVii, VIII, IX, X i spent plenty of time in extra dungeons in order to hit the higher levels. Life kinda gets in the way and now i tend to focus on games where the grinding is limited so that i can complete and move onto the next.

#779077 3D TV is over....

Posted by CoffeeAddict on 25 November 2017 - 11:30 AM

I think the VR goggles will kill off not just 3D TV.. but TV in general!

You're right about that. No need to sit in a dedicated room to watch something anymore, now you can pop the screen in front of your eyes and take it around anywhere you go. It could effectively kill the cinema-going experience too. Large screens are only effective to the relative distance of our eyes. With VR taking up the entirety of your vision, it beats buying any large screen TV or going to the Big Screen for a cinematic experience.

Imagine having a PS4 built into one. It'd be great as a portable gaming/movie/media device.

Would be interesting if Nintendo turned around and said ' we actually have developed a VR attachment for your Switch, enjoy!' It could happen. Love all the mock ups on the internet.

#776972 B*tch Thread

Home fireworks displays - I don’t know at what point I flipped from loving home fireworks as a child to finding them horrifically an annoying as an adult. Love displays - beautiful especially over the water. But someone letting off fireworks around your house waking the baby and shooting each other is just bloody annoying.

Posted by CoffeeAddict on 02 November 2017 - 02:22 PM

Im now the proud owner of Mario edition Switch console with Mario + rabbits. After what i had heard in other regions i was surprised to find a game cartridge for the mario odyssey rather than just a download code. Alas it now has been put in a cupboard for safe keeping til xmas - cannot wait til Christmas!

Give it a few months and it will be significantly reduced in price. Potentially as much a watchdogs dropped.

A Petrol mower, no fiddling around with cables, no fear of electrocution when cutting damp grass (granted it’s pretty darn low risk with an electric mower.) and I prefer the noise that they make.

An externally vented tumble dryer - I know it eats power but in winter it avoids making the house damp, most of our clothes are fine with being tumble dried and now we have a little one the sheer volume of washing they generate is immense. I have installed it above the washing machine and it has a built in vent out of the wall so no having to drag a hose to he window or haul clothes far to get them to it.

Polish attachment to our vacuum cleaner - means the furniture polish last longer, you’re not just pushing the dust from one place to another. Our shark navigator is still better than our previous Dysons at getting up dog hair and has made cleaning the carpets a breeze.
