#755159 Nintendo NX now Nintendo Switch

Posted by Silvon on 01 May 2017 - 01:27 AM

I beat Zelda BotW tonight.

I completed all 120 shrines but I had to use an online guide to discover the last 5 because there was no way I would have found them on my own.

I never completed every side quest but definitely got through the majority and though I'm sure there is still plenty more to do, I feel I completed a large portion of what was there to complete within the game.

All up I spent 130 hours in it.

I absolutely loved it. Taking away the nostalgia factor of past Zelda's, I would say this is easily the best from a gameplay perspective. After finishing it I think it deserved all the accolades it was awarded and it will definitely be remembered in gaming history.

I beat BotW earlier this week also and have pretty much the same sentiments about the game.  I haven't done absolutely everything either but I enjoyed exploring the world and getting a lot done before I beat the game.

There's nothing else on Switch that I want at the moment, but BotW was one hell of a launch game for the console and something I've enjoyed immensely.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what else comes for this console in the future.

#725864 Where to buy a Vita?

Posted by Silvon on 29 August 2016 - 10:58 PM

I don't think NZG have any either? Haven't seen Vitas listed in some time there.
I'd look at importing from Play-Asia.
Or else the simple route is secondhand from EB.

I'd probably actually try Amazon, Play-Asia seems to be pretty expensive at around $280 NZD not including shipping.  Amazon do though seem to have them at $150 USD right now (or around $210 NZD) which isn't a terribly bad price, although then there's the shipping costs to get it back here.

Amazon also have reasonably priced 32gb memory cards too at $57 USD (or about $78 NZD) which again you'd have to add shipping costs onto, but it's cheaper than anywhere else I've seen.

Whatever the case though there are avenues available still to get it though it looks like unfortunately nothing in NZ apart from as woolly said to go preowned at EB or on Trademe perhaps.

Quite a few people playing this I see! I've downloaded it but have yet to play it due to being rather busy, I'm going to give it a shot very soon though and see what I think of it.

Oh good! Hope you like it enough to play a bit. Then I wouldn't be the only beginner hehe

I find it's great for hopping in if you don't have a lot of time and do a quick quest task.

I haven't played an MMO in a while so I'm hoping that I'll enjoy this.  I'll be new and lost right along with you so you won't have to feel bad haha!

That is something good about MMO's, that the gameplay allows you to just jump on and achieve something in the game whether you have ten minutes or two hours.

#719529 Star Ocean 5!

Posted by Silvon on 03 July 2016 - 02:15 PM

I received my copy of the game today and will get into it later tonight when I get back home.

I know you really don't like it panda and the reviews in the west aren't amazing but they also aren't terrible or even really bad. The game had gotten a pretty mixed reception overall and for a jrpg that isn't worrying me either.

I'm very excited to play it and don't regret buying it full price at all. I'll post up my initial impressions later tonight or tomorrow.

Edit:  Fixed up a typo, stupid phone haha.

a 60ish meta is pretty bad these days. Tbh the Western side is being more forgiving than the Japanese.... the Japanese reception for the game was pretty brutal. I hope you enjoy it..... I managed to play through all of it without throwing it to the side but felt extremely hollow once I reached the ending. All the good ideas get squashed by bad ones sadly.

What a let down. How hard is it to make a decent Star Ocean game?

All they had to do was let me travel between different planets and I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more.... why the hell is a game about Space travel locking you to 7 bland zones on the same planet? >_>

A 60ish meta is the same now as it was 2 years, 5 years or 10 years ago.  I've loved games that have had a 60ish meta before and in the same vein hated games that have had a much higher meta, in that regard reviews for SO like with other games mean very little to me.

I haven't played through the full game yet obviously but what I have played I'm enjoying.  It's not the best Star Ocean game I've played and undoubtedly it's not the best game I'll play this year but it's also not a game that I see as being overall just an awful experience to play.  I've played countless games that are worse in every are and a lot of those are worse in every area.

I can see the reasons that people didn't enjoy this Star Ocean already and I can definitely agree things could have been done better but I'm not letting those ruin the experience I"m having, as I try not to with any game I play.

I'm liking the music, the setting and the story thus far is interesting.  I like the characters although I believe that the interaction with NPCs could have been done better.

Something I don't have any issue with is combat, I love the seamless transition and as for the way that a lot of people have mentioned just running in and bashing away at everything without really worrying about strategy, the combat in that regard is similar to the early SO games and many fights in SO3 and SO4 as well.

This feels like a somewhat different experience from the usual JRPGs that I play and previous SO games especially in how pretty much every interaction and moment is seamless with you being in control of the main character and it not being a cutscene which is something to get used to.

There are negatives sure, but it's nothing close to being bad enough to ruin the overall experience that I'm enjoying, we'll see if that changes as I progress through the game and especially when I beat the game but right now it's giving me everything I expected it to and delivering well enough that I'm not disappointed.

#712773 Final Fantasy XV (Versus XIII)

Posted by Silvon on 24 May 2016 - 12:38 AM

They mention Australia and New Zealand but then just say it will be available for Aus :(

We'll see how it goes I guess!  I asked if there would be any available in NZ and got a response that there should be but he was going to double check to make sure.  I'm not sure whether we will but I guess we'll find out in a few days!

I want this really badly, it's definitely the CE I'd most like to have this year so I'll try and get it if there's any way possible!

Looks like they updated to blog lets hope they just dont bundle us together with AUS! Also hope its wont be limited to level 4 eb games people like the last batch for Aus.

Well at this stage a friend of mine in the UK got one pre-ordered today for me, it's on Xbox One which isn't my platform of choice but I'll take it if it's the only way.  She has another friend in the UK who will take it if I manage to get a local copy but otherwise I have this sorted finally, I'll just have to pay for the postage which I don't mind doing for this!

What a fiasco the EU store pre-order situation was though.  It was supposed to go live at 10am BST, they had technical issues and hours later it still wasn't up.  They were posting on twitter that they'd give advance notice before it went up, at least half an hour.  Suddenly it just went life with no advanced warning then a tweet from SE saying they had every intention of letting people know in advance but they're live now.

So currently I'm relieved and owing a friend a very large favour which I'll repay even if I get a local copy because hey, she's awesome anyway! :)

#694527 What do you want from the gaming community that it currently lacks?

Posted by Silvon on 03 February 2016 - 01:02 AM

Less toxicity in MOBAs.

why not just less toxicity in general? The amount of jerks in the gaming community is insane.

To be honest i dont think youtube needs comments or that most games need a chat function

That's something I like about  Hearthstone, that there's no chat function.  You can emote people but either player can just squelch (mute) the other player if they're abusing that function.

Less toxicity in general would be my wish for the gaming community too, I avoid most twitch chats because they're usually not worth even reading.

#677141 "Normal Raid - B-Team - PS4 - Tuesday Nights @ 9.30"

Posted by Silvon on 08 October 2015 - 11:32 AM

If anyone if keen to run the raid again after our first run on Friday let me know.

We should be able to knock off the first run in 2 hours.

Not if some people have not done it before; (insert name of Year 1 exotic sniper rifle) will be required. If you can figure out the name correctly you will get the 51st calcified fragment.

That sounds like Patience and Time to me Bridge.  Though it could also be an ice breaker if things get too heated. :P

#673165 Star Ocean 5!

Posted by Silvon on 17 September 2015 - 11:29 PM

If I can remember too I should be able to share some thoughts once the game releases in Feb here.

Haha I'll remember to remind you then!

Pretty big news though!  Star Ocean 2 is getting ported to Vita and PS4, confirmed for Japan only at the moment.  I'm happy about this, mainly because there's a lot of people who weren't able to play the PSP version due to its scarcity and there being no digital version of either the PSP or PS1 version.  Hopefully with a port to Vita and PS4 (which the Producer has said won't take long) it might hype up SO5 a bit more.  SO2 was definitely an amazing game and is well worth playing for people who never got the opportunity to previously.

That is of course with the hope that we get a localisation of SO2, but I'm pretty optimistic that we will.

  • PlayStation Portable - One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3, Bandai Namco Games

I could be wrong but as far as I'm aware there is no Playstation Portable version of this game.  The only One Piece game I remember ever being on PSP is Romance Dawn and that was a few years ago now.

Awesome work for doing this though, great idea to post all the info here for people!

#671278 Official Destiny Thread

Posted by Silvon on 08 September 2015 - 08:10 PM

You would not win under the CGA. Sorry.  There is no way you could argue, having spent hundreds of hours playing the game, that the product is:

-not of acceptable quality
-not fit for purpose
-does not match the description

In fact I think a judge would see a claim ,as has been mentioned above, as frivolous and a waste of the courts time.

Re Silvon's point: Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the T's and C's or any of the legalistic blurbs on the box or anywhere for that matter which we "agreed" to when using the game would override the CGA.

It's not so much about overriding the CGA here, because you can see in the license agreement that there's a clause which allows for the laws of individual countries to apply and exclude the license agreement where applicable.  The problem is that the CGA in this instance covers what you purchase which is essentially the license.  Edit: the CGA here also of course covers any physical items that you purchase like disc, CE items or if purchasing digitally the game itself actually working as intended allowing you to play it.

So long as, as you say the product is of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and matches the description then their license agreement comes into play and the CGA is satisfied.

If you're looking specifically at the CGA though then you have to keep this in mind: "goods are different from a description given (the manufacturer is only responsible for descriptions given or approved by them, e.g. what is shown on the packaging or in the manufacturer’s advertising)." from the CGA itself.

In this instance, Bungie has provided descriptions of what they're offering and what you agree to when you purchase the license.  It's never stated anywhere that the features available in the game will always be available and never be changed, it's quite the opposite in descriptions that are readily available and is reasonable to assume will be the case with games that require online play.

The License Agreement from Bungie needs to be considered in conjunction with the CGA though rather than something that's legally irrelevant because we have the CGA.

#671260 Official Destiny Thread

Posted by Silvon on 08 September 2015 - 06:38 PM

Again I'm not asking PSN to give me anything, I just want them to be a good retailer, if they want to sell a product good on them , but if they want to remove my abilitly to play the content I have paid for, it is their problem. I purchased a product in good faith , if they don't/can't do that I'm entitled to ask for a refund.
Yes I have paid $160 for the game, and I expect to play what I paid for.
Under the CGA a retailer/manufacturer has to be able service the product they sell for 7 years after it is sold. Eg Adobe were still servicing/ maintaining CS2 until the 7 years were up, and same goes for there other products.
Under CGA their is no difference between a digital product and a physical product.

All I can say is that I can't see you getting anywhere with this.  A quick glance at the back of the Destiny case and I can see this clearly, "Activision makes no guarantee regarding the availability of online play or features, and may modify or discontinue online services at its discretion without notice."

There's also this, "Opening the game box and using the software constitutes acceptance of the Destiny Software License Agreement available..."

I'll throw in this from the License Agreement as well "Your installation and use of any of Bungie’s updates, patches or modifications to the Program or your continued use of the Program following notice of changes to this Agreement will demonstrate your acceptance of any and all such changes. Bungie may change, modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Program at any time. Bungie may also impose limits on certain features or restrict your access to parts or all of the Program without notice or liability. You have no interest, monetary or otherwise, in any feature or content contained in the Program.  "

Basically the gist of everything you can read in the license agreement is that you own a license to play Destiny, and as such you have no ownership rights of any of the content in the game.  Because you have no ownership rights of the actual game content itself, they can change and modify the features within their game at their discretion.

Just by playing the game you've agreed to all these terms, and especially in this case you've agreed that they have the right to change features of the game like they've done.  While it sucks if the game is taken in a direction that means you wouldn't have purchased the game originally had you known this would happen or whatever the case may be here the fact remains that you've already agreed to their terms here.

Also just reading this from you:

Im pretty sure you wont get a thing Altom, What about all the game servers that shut down after a number of years, so you pay for a game with Online Features, and then all of a sudden the servers shut down and you are left without Online Play unless you buy the new Fifa/NBA 2k. This is the same, there will be something in the T&C that you have probably agreed to which is going to leave you with not much to stand on. just sayin...

Jor , I see your point.
If a company sells a product in any country they have to abide by the rule of that country, their T&C don't override those countries laws. It is upto the retailer to compile with those laws.

They are complying with NZ's laws, basically through this:

"Bungie grants you the non-exclusive, personal, non-transferable, limited right and license to install and use one copy of this Program solely for your non-commercial use. All rights not specifically granted are reserved by Bungie. The Program is licensed, not sold, for your use. Your license confers no title or ownership in this Program, and should not be construed as a sale of any rights in this Program."

Your ownership of the license to play the game hasn't changed, what's changing are the features that you will have access to.  By playing the game you've told them you agree to them having the right to change the Program (Destiny) at their discretion and so it's very difficult to now make a convincing case that you don't agree with it.
