I borrowed one with a huge cache of games for quite a while - but didn't pick up my own until the see-through model came out. There were some absolute classic games on that machine, Super Mario Land (so differant than any other Mario), Zelda 4, and the best Wario game ever - Super Mario Land 3. I remember after I had it for a while Pokemon came out - which was the first time I really sank my teeth into a turn based RPG (always thought they looked boring and avoided them earlier). Despite all the cheesy merchandising and cartoons ect that came later - the actual game was - still is fantastic!

So does anyone have stories about their GameBoy or even GameBoy Pockets? What were your favourite games? Anyone go blind from trying to see what the hell was actually happening on the screen?

Hours of fun with Pokemon Red. Great game, many fond memories of it. Before the whole franchise was doomed by overkill.

I also loved the Mario games and I remember playing a lot of Kirby's Dreamland. Can't remember much else aside from that. :S

Had GB pocket and then eventually bought one of those see through ones. Had Super Mario Land on it as well as Pokemon yellow and blue and some tennis game, loads of fun, even though you had to keep supplying your own batteries....

I had an original Gameboy (yes those big brick sized fukers) that was Black. Many good hours playing Pokemon and Zelda Links Awakening, thats all i used to do in my primary school days is play gameboy and go home play it all after school while watching cartoons. It went through heaps of batteries so i ended up getting an adapter and some rechargeable batteries for it. I remember when it was bedtime and i didn't want to stop playing so i would tuck the gameboy under the blankets and make sure my parents wouldn't see me playing it :o

I have a gameboy emulator, but whenever I get a game for it, its either in Japanese (when it says 100% real english next to it) or its been hacked with messages like "ps fudge01: i bet you dont even know how to hack".

Once I got Fire Red and it turned out to be leaf green.

In 1989 my Dad was going to get us a Game Boy until he saw the screen and decided that it wasn't worth the money. In 1991 I got a Sega Game Gear instead. A) It had Sonic the Hedgehog. B) The screen was in colour and the graphics were better. Because I didn't actually need to take it outside the house, and because it was region free and we travelled a lot, it really worked out for the best.

In in about 1995 I caved and picked up an original Brick for about 20 bucks. I still have it today. I have Tetris and Super Mario Land; I also had Pokemon Red and Killer Instinct, but I ended up selling both. When the Game Boy Colour came out, I picked up one, but it was kind of a stupid purchase really. Still, my Game Boy love immediately helped me pick up an Advance, which I was amazed by at the time, even if I needed to sit under a lamp to play it. Today I have a Game Boy Micro with Sonic Advance 3 and it's like I have the best of all words. ;)

I somehow managed to accumulate three of them. I love 'em, as bricky as they are they're a damn cool design.

Ninja Gaiden and Donkey Kong FTW.

I bought a gamegear, and was the envy of everyone at school.

3 years later I was still kewl, albiet still playing the same games because no news came out.

[troll]

Screw you nintendo for making an inferior handheld, making it cheap and then locking developers into it.

I have to add that MGS: Ghost Babel is my favourite GBC game.
Can I say that I liked playing pokemon without getting laughed at?

The only original Gameboy game I have played is Tetris!
