Cube - 3/5

Cube 2: Hypercube - 2.5/5

Cube Zero - 2.75/5

I'd like to see a sequel, or a reboot which is actually done with higher quality. Great premise, just average execution so far.

I can't stand Kubricks Shining, I struggled to stay awake cause I was so bored. I really liked King's remake though, it may not be as iconic but its a much better adaptation of the book... Plus doesnt resort its female lead to nothing more than a crying screaming mess.

EDIT: Also Secret Window, I really like it. I know most people tend to sh*t on it but I enjoy it.

Huh. Interesting. I get it though, Shelly Duvall was horrible in it, although might be attributed to the strained behind the scenes.

Yeah but it's obvious that's how Kubrick wanted her to be on screen. It's a shame that it scarred her the way it did.

There is supposed to be one in the works but I think lower budget works in it's favor. I also think Zero is a rather brilliant prequel that is often overlooked.

I just felt it dragged on too long rehashing the same premise, offering very little in answers and when there was, was strange and didnt make much sense.

A cube TV series would be great.

U-571 - entertaining boy's-own submarine actioner, bit silly in parts but keeps things chugging along so you don't notice. 8/10

Dawn Of The Dead - rare case of a remake done right, ditching the original's dread but amping up the fun violence. 8/10

I've only seen the original Cube. It is a great film with interesting ideas, even without giving any answers. Also some good commentary on society and the types of people in it.

Circle - lame attempt at "deep" commentary on social interaction, cliques and prejudices (Cube style). Watch 12 Angry Men instead. 3/10

The Killing Of A Sacred Deer - Lanthimos does it again with another weird, dreamlike drama about... something. Dark and v good. 8/10

I'd agree with you "about ... something". A friend I saw it with tried to explain its references to a Greek myth or something, but it was still unnecessarily creepy. I preferred the other Farrell and Kidman film at the festival last year, The Beguiled, although it was a strange one to feel they needed to remake.

From what I've read online, yeah it's based on an ancient Greek play. Very, very, very loosely based.

I like Lanthimos's''s'es's movies though, he's great at creating an uneasy atmos.

Happy Death Day -6/10- The concept is great and it could have been a really fun and funny horror movie that ended up just feeling really restrictive cause gotta get dat PG-13 dollar dollar billz yall. The third act is incredibly out of place no matter how hard they try justify it. The killer is so incredibly obvious and they dont even bother trying to hide it at all.

A Ghost Story - pretentious hipster drama about, er... a ghost... er, haunting a house. Arty, slow, some terrible bits, but touching and fresh. 8/10

Happy Death Day - fun comedy slasher loses points for ripping on Groundhog Day but the dumb teens this is aimed at would never have seen it (as referenced in a scene towards the end. Meta, yo.). 7/10

I've seen three of those! #1 and #6 would also be on a list of mine if I were to make one. Kind of surprised to realise #6 was 2017 actually. Seems longer ago now. I'd put Thor Ragnarok right up on top though.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle -7/10- Better than I thought it was going to be and could have been a lot worse. Though in the end it is basically a typical Dwayne Johnson action move that just happens to be a sequel to Jumanji. Though it could have skipped with the shout outs to Williams.

It is a funny movie in retrospect. Unintentional dark comedy.

It's entirely intentional.

Its even clearer after seeing the deleted scenes that this was by choice.
