These all look like just a list of the most popular games.

I would put Quake on there and remove Quake 2, vice versa with Doom.

I thought that too, but Quake was quite the revolution at the time.

Should probably add Blood in there too, that was great.

Ok after lurking for 9 or so years I suppose I better make a post

My trusty 386sx with monochrome monitor (cost me $900 second hand) way back when a 486DX? was the top of the line

got thrashed playing

the original XCom,
Halloween Harry,
Picklewars and
DR Brain although Dr Brain was a bit of a disaster as some of the games were colour based talk about 16 shades of grey, or what ever the monitor did

Anybody else remember getting a printed catalogue (A5 sized) with all the shareware games in it, where you selected the games, posted away your order form and money and then received back via the post your 3.5inch floppies with all the games zipped up on them?

Nah i don't remember that.
I remember shareware (that influence is a permanent thing for me, i guess) and getting games from friends zipped onto multiple floppies yeh.

Age of Empires definitive is pretty bloody exciting, and it took me longer than it should have to find out about it! They've gone to way more effort with the art than the AoK HD edition guys did, not to mention promises of improved pathing and AI! Having said that, the AI was already pretty good at higher levels, especially as it was a much less defensive game than AoK. Looking forward to this a lot, and it sounds like I'm in good company :D

Also glad to see it is going Windows Store rather than Steam. Something has to kickstart that interface, and using the words Xbox live multiplayer is really nice. Brings back memories of the glory days of zone.com. I do like that companies are realising that the fact that we all want these old games back is not necessarily a bad thing!

Other than that, I'd go WarCraft II, Warlords II, Escape Velocity Override, and the Marathon Trilogy. And those are pretty much the best games ever, not just of the '90s.
