I know it's a little early but it's almost that time of the year again, in just a little over a month, on June 11th Electronic Arts will start E3 2017 followed by Microsoft, Bethesda, Ubisoft and Sony. Nintendo once again has decided not to have live press conference but they will still most likely hold a pre-recorded online presentation.
Though E3 is no longer as exciting as it once used to be, it still is gaming’s biggest show and this year E3 has opened it’s doors to the public unlike the previous years, 15,000 tickets have been sold to the public.
So what can the big players in the gaming industry surprise us with this year, below is a full schedule in local New Zealand time, starting with EA and closing once again with Sony.
For the second year in a row, EA has decided to host their own invite-only show, EA Play will start Sunday June 11th at 7:00 am with a press conference (invite-only) then open to public until June 13th alongside E3.
Confirmed games for the show:
- Battlefront II
- Need for Speed (new title)
- Fifa 18
- Madden NFL 18
- NBA Live 18
And many more announced at the press conference.
Exciting year for Xbox fans, new hardware! Microsoft will hold their E3 press conference on Monday June 12th at 9:00 am. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer is "excited to unveil Project Scorpio and the amazing game experiences it powers at E3 this June."
We can finally expect to see what Project Scorpio will look like, how it’ll run games, hopefully get a release date and how much it’ll cost.
Some of the confirmed titles for the show are:
- Crackdown 3
- State of Decay II
- Sea of Thieves
- Phantom Dust
I’m sure we’ll see some new exciting exclusives from Microsoft.
Welcome to Bethesdaland! Bethesda is returning to E3 this year, starting Monday June 12th at 4:00 pm. We’re sure to see more of Quake Champions along with some new titles, Bethesda sent out their E3 invites in a form of a cartoony fictional theme park called Bethesdaland, based on popular Bethesda franchises like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Prey and Quake Champions.
Two of the theme park’s locations are closed with signs “Coming Soon” and “Under Construction” which could be hinting at two new titles being announced at E3. Will Bethesda give the fans Elder Scrolls 6? Skyrim was released in 2011 - So this just might be the year we see another Elder Scrolls.
Ubisoft will be hosting their press conference on Tuesday June 13th at 8:00 am. * (Time based on last year’s E3, will update if it’s different)
What can we expect from Ubisoft this year? Will we see a new Assassin’s Creed? We’ve had an Assassin’s Creed title annually since 2009 but Ubisoft decided to take a year break from the series in 2016. According to leaks / rumours, the next installment in the series will be titled Assassin’s Creed Empire and will take place in Ancient Egypt. Maybe we’ll see a new Far Cry? I’m sure we’ll see a new Tom Clancy title as well, perhaps Splinter Cell?
PC Gaming Show
PC Gamer is back for the third year with PC Gaming Show, this time powered by Intel (AMD last year) - PC Gaming Show will start on Tuesday June 13th at 5:00 am.
The PC Gaming Show, an event focused on software and hardware for gaming computers, The event will showcase exclusive announcements, trailers and discussion from many of the most exciting developers and projects on the PC platform.
With no new hardware reveals unlike last year, I think it’s safe to assume that Sony will be focusing primarily on software, Sony has been quiet about this year’s E3, however they have announced that their press conference will be held on Tuesday June 13th at 1:00 pm.
Some games we can expect to see:
- God of War
- Days Gone
- Death Stranding
- Detroit: Become Human
- The Last of Us Part II
- Uncharted Lost Legacy
- Knack 2
- Gran Turismo Sport
We can also expect a few new titles from Sony, maybe some more details on Shenmue III and Final Fantasy VII remake. Sony will no doubt also have something to show for the PlayStation VR.
Time: TO BE ANNOUNCED
Nintendo hasn’t had a live on stage press conference since E3 2012, they’re continuing that trend this year instead Nintendo will be hosting their Nintendo Treehouse Show.
According to Nintendo’s Reggie, this year’s E3 is going to be a major opportunity for Nintendo to showcase not only Nintendo Switch, but also content coming to Nintendo 3DS.
