Ok so this kinda came outta nowhere!

Good to see it has added grunt that the 3DS XL has so newer games run better (I understand Pokemon SuMo runs terrible on the old 3DS / 2DS)

I guess it does solidify the idea that they are continuing on with their handheld range despite the switch heading into that territory

Don't worry, if it sells like hot cakes they will discontinue it.

I already have 2 3DSes and I'm tempted! Never use the 3D anyway.
There is a good lineup of - what do we call them now? 3DS? 2/3DS? Just New DS? - games still coming for this console.

Wasn't expecting that price considering the 3ds xl is 280. I love the new 3d effect so happy with mine.

Wow that pricing seems really off to me.

I like the idea and design but the general impression of the 2ds for me was that it was the non premium device and the price was meant to reflect that. Obviously I'm wrong

The skeptic in me thinks it's either naff eb pricing or a placeholder.

What niche is this supposed to fill? A 3DS XL is only a little bit more, no?

So much head scratching at the whole announcement. My view is its like a 'can't afford a switch? How about a 2ds?' without having to re-advertise the 3ds.

The 3ds, and pokemon in particular, got me invested in Nintendo. This could all be part of their plan by staying in everyone's faces.

Given the option I'd take a clamshell new 2DS over a 3DS as I can't use the 3D.

Though I would say the motivation is to reinforce 3DS is still a thing to keep fans happy.

I watched IGNs reaction to this earlier and 1 thing stuck with me in regards to it. The 2ds was made with the concept of no 3d to protect kids eyes and to have a form factor that will prevent it being snapped into 2 by kids.
This is a complete contradiction.

They actually said they didnt give the 2ds a clamshell design for the sole reason to stop it getting snapped and then they give it a clamshell.

I know numerous people bk in the uk who brought 2ds just because it was non clamshell as that was how it was advertised there as being kiddie friendly and hard to break and then they bk track completely.

I get what you mean but don't get your take on it.

Have they said they are discontinuing the wedge? Or when they released the wedge did they say something like a clamshell will never be in 2D?

I just see it as another option for buyers. You can still get wedges I believe, you can still get 3D clamshells, this is a new option.

I don't see the problem. You can still buy the kids version, this is just a bigger screen version for people who don't care for the 3D. I wouldn't like to carry my 3DS XL around in flat form that's for sure.

Would make more sense to be wedge imo .. why would you buy this...just get a 3ds with 3d off ... I don't take my 3ds anywhere and don't really like the clam design but got it before 2ds was out...

If its cheaper than a 3ds and you dont care for 3d it makes sence to buy this and not pay extra for tech you just want to leave turned off.
