I've never been a Zelda fan but BotW is the only game along with Witcher 3 that has truly blown me away in the past several years.

I've become really sick of the abundance of open world games that feel like they cross off a checklist of what's 'supposed' to be in these games, but BotW does the total opposite of that, and it's what makes it so special.

I like that horses are in the game, but I feel the whole point of the game is to just take it all in and explore. Even though I have horses, with the abundance of fast travel points, it really does want you to just explore the hell out of the world.

Why not explore on horses? Are you a racist?

Got a baby due in a few weeks, If I buy it now my Mrs will kill me for spending all my time on it, if I buy it after the baby my Mrs will kill me for not focusing on the baby.

I'm screwed either way. Might get round to playing it in 1/2 to 1 hour sessions at 10pm or something once life settles back to normal. Oh thats right, that doesnt happen once you have kids (or so I'm told)

Dude, let your Mrs have a rest getting you brownie points, while you lie on the couch with your bubs fast asleep on your chest.

Baby is lying on you so moving would be disruptive to its sleep, which is mean. Playing games on the other hand is a win for all 3 parties.

I played so many games with my boy sleeping in me while my partner got a break.

BOTW arrived today.

So much excitement, better hammer out all the chores I need to do before I start, else I suspect chores won't get done.

.....excitement.

yeah gaming as a parent means i almost never play multiplayer games anymore aside from locally because of the stop-start nature of naps and such during the day.

once baby is born and you stop feeling like a zombie, there becomes a surprisingly large amount of time for gaming during sleep breaks and such.

getting a console that can sleep or games that have quick-save are a necessity.

my 2DS got lots of love when my daughter was young because of the sleep mode.

without spoilers. i'm currently 'stuck' in zelda but refuse to look up how to proceed. haha. i'm currently running around elsewhere doing exploring / shrines while i mull over my next move.

I've died, a lot.

Can I climb up here, nope fell to my death.

I can jump into that water, oh its icy cold water, dead.

I want to hit the stone thing, oh it bounced back and killed me.

I'm going to run this way before I turn the camera, dead.

Digging it though, love the art style and animation.

great choice for the art direction (and music too), really Ghibli-esque, the beauty is getting lost in the game, there's no boundaries, and finding little tricks you can do with the environment gives you a real sense of reward.

Cheers for all the gaming with a baby tips,  looks like I will get my gaming fix.  I'm definitely a MP focussed player - Battlefield 1 taking up most of my gaming time at the moment.  That will take a hit for sure.

I was in love with Battlefield but they stuff was gone so quickly.

I didn't want to piss off other players, and when bubs needs something it takes priority over everything. Since then I've played sweet dick all multiplayer.

This rings true for me – I sadly had to give up Destiny (and the best fireteam ever) because I couldn’t guarantee being able to commit to a specific amount of game time once kids came along. Conversely, I don’t know if it’s widely reported, but the Switch is even more well suited to even the smallest game sessions – everything is just so snappy. One quick press of the home button, and the Switch turns your tv on, and you’re instantly back in game where you left off.

Zelda is amazing, and I also don’t really want to talk about it :P

Regarding the horses, I have hardly ever been using them, but possibly my favourite self-made adventure in the game involved the capture and journey back with my horse through uncharted and dangerous territory to register him at a distant ranch.

Just managed to grab a spoof version of the upcoming amiibo from Majora's Mask. The drops it gives are sweet.

Finally managed to progress past the first area (Great Plateau), after hours of just buggering around, collecting and exploring. The real adventure is about to begin...

Probably.
