I was wondering how people did this in games on Wii u? All I have noticed is recording highlights from Mario kart. Is that all you can do?
I'd love some xenoblade screenshots but can't figure out how.

I'm not aware that screenshots are enabled or possible on the Wii U in general. A BIG missed opportunity there by Nintendo.

The new Switch console will have a screen/share function.

To take a screenshot on the Wii U simply:
  1. Have the desired image displaying on your television and/or Gamepad.
  2. Press the Home button on your Gamepad.
  3. Press MiiVerse which will take you to the community for that game.
  4. Press post in the bottom right hand corner of the Gamepad.

Cool.  I was wondering what does the plug for the Wii U look like but my capture thing can only do the 360/PS3/Wii.

Yea the best way I think still is to save it on Miiverse on Wii U then check out the web browser Miiverse (https://miiverse.nintendo.net/) then when you login you should be able to see your screen shots, can post or like save it to your computer etc.
