The Nintendo NX is now officially the Nintendo Switch. As previously expected the new console is a hybrid where the tablet is the main console that gets connected to a display dock. The tablet screen features attachable controllers called Joy-cons that allow easy 2 player access.

Below is the 3 minute long trailer:

This was taken from a Nvidia blog confirming they are a partner:

new gaming platform algorithms, computer architecture, system design, system software, APIs, game engines and peripherals. They all had to be rethought and redesigned for Nintendo to deliver the best experience for gamers, whether they’re in the living room or on the move.

A Console Architecture for the Living Room and Beyond

Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.

The Nintendo Switch’s gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses.

Gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.

We’ve optimized the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases. This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.

NVIDIA gaming technology is integrated into all aspects of the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system, which promises to deliver a great experience to gamers.

The Nintendo Switch will be available in March 2017. More information is available at https://www.nintendo.com/switch.

While it seems like a cool idea I don't know if I like the idea of carrying a $600? Console around as a handheld. The 3ds still scares me like that.

It's kinda a neat idea to bridge the inevitable crossover from lounge gaming to mobile gaming

Many people go around with iPads or android tablets so I cant say that being too much of an issue. Would be great if they could give it some tablet functions (browser, facebook etc) to make it a bit more viable to carry around that would be immense but very un-nintendo.

They need to make sure they dont mess up connectivity and allow 2 pro controllers at the same time at least and finally I hope the frame rate of zelda when it goes handheld get ironed out. Never great when a trailer shows issues like that.

Nice enough gimmick, but needs it's own iteration of Pokemon Go or something to be relevant. Same sh*t different day, but that's how the Wii and Wii U looked to me :P

If Sony don't make another handheld and stop all support this might be the way forward for me. Definitely interested but not fully sold yet.

If its got the new Zelda, Mario and Mario Kart then I'm in as per usual.  Which it will do, so I guess I'm in.

Probably wouldn't be appreciated if you utilised the vocal input for dragon shout whilst on a plane!

If graphics are as good as xb1 and PS4 I see it becoming the console to own simply for the real "play anywhere" it will bring to the games.

I'm just like Siamese.

If it's got Zelda, Mario and Mario Kart then there is no way I can pass on it.

My only worry with Nintendo since the GameCube days is 3rd party support. I hope they have at least sort input from 3rd parties and given them a reason to support it.

i have no problems with online and accounts etc. a couple of developer interviews have been very positive about Nintendo finally coming into the 21st century.

I think there's still a lot more to show off.

can't run 3DS game carts. i would be very surprised if there is any backward compat with the 3DS due to the duel screens.

i wouldn't be surprised if the Switch has almost zero backward compat due to the different architecture under the hood, i would expect any virtual console stuff to come through very slowly if at all. if anything, the Switch would seem to be a rather significant break between consoles for Nintendo.

and to be honest . . . with Dolphin covering Wii and Gamecube emu and Cemu trucking along nicely there is a very easy avenue for getting more games than Nintendo actually offers on their consoles due to licencing and all that.

i'm hoping the Switch represents the death of the Nintendo home and handheld lines. It would be great if Nitnendo could focus their energy on one platform . . . and then somehow force Capcom to make a new Monster Hunter for Switch :D

even if Nintendo went AAA games (normal home console games) and then a second line of slightly cheaper games (handheld games) on the same console it would be great.
