Well I'm f***ed for online racing then as I cut corners and hit people because I'm just sh*t at racing games.

Well you can race any day, you'll just be stuck in the divisions with like-minded drivers until Gran Turismo 7 comes along.

Yeah it's a funny issue. The cutting detection and penalties will need to be *perfect* if they want to run sanctioned racing. I predict some butthurt.

That sure is correct. Got to be perfect.
If games have loopholes, gamers going to exploit them.
I'm going to predict it won't be perfect to start with but updates will slowly fix things over time.

I don't get the trouble others do with corner cutting in CARS, I just... Don't cut corners and I don't get any problems lol
My issue was actually with running wide. Sometimes I'd get penalised for pushing and going too wide, the next lap I'd literally go wider and not get a penalty. It was so annoying.

They need a consistent rule of all four tires over the line on exit for example. Not a pre defined, invisible space.

I'd like some along the lines of a warning system where if you have slightly cut it gives you a warning. Then after a certain amount you get a time added to your finish time each offence or a drive through. Only for minor cuts though, obvious cheating should be an instant drive through or DQ.

You really want to strike a balance between allowing people to push to the limit who do so fairly (and slamming them with a disproportionate penalty) and culling the dickheads.

Edit: Oh and they god damn need to detect someone pushing you wide or being involved in an accident which forces a cut penalty on you.

Edit 2: Maybe the penalty for very minor cuts could be an instruction to give back the time you made based on your laps prior? Something you have to manage within 4-5 turns otherwise you face a time added penalty.

If you 'cut' a corner by accident (braked too late, lost control, accidently hit by another car etc) and gain an advantage, it should give you ten seconds or so leeway to 'give back' that time as soon as you get back on track, i.e. by slowing down to get to the position you were, in relation to the other cars before going off track.

Probably not possible to program, but that is the ideal system, given its what happens in real life.

Yup! That would be the dream...

I heard Kaz in one of the earlier videos say that the automated system did of course have its limitations and wouldn't be able to differentiate who caused contact so everyone would have to take care to avoid contact for their own sakes, but there will be one race weekly with human steward(s) making the calls. I presume that will be for the highest class of race in the week. >_>

Humans. Interesting.

I think that if this game came out before I had a family- it would consume my life. It's clearly aimed for the hardcore and could potentially get people real sponsorships etc if it works well enough.

I'd love to replace my real job with this lol

I was actually thinking along the same lines there brettzor. I may have to get a ps4 and give my life over to racing on it

I would love to do that right now with iracing and the likes but uni is standing in my way (and that one part of my brain telling me its an insane idea)

Hey man it's a snowball effect. Start small and then next minute you're destroying a small winter town... I mean gaining lots of followers.

Anyone know much about the new wheel being released by TM for GTS? I've only read this much. I want to get a new wheel as I don't have one for PS4 yet. I feel I have to wait for more info before making my choice as the next one I get I want to be PC compatible and decent! Some people reckon it's going to be super expensive because it's rumoured to be direct drive so that will be a deciding factor.

I think you can reasonably expect it to be high-end expensive. Don't hold your breath.

I've heard of 3 people on here have issues with their g29.
My 1 thrusmatser T300 has had no issues....

The DFGT for GT5 wasn't that expensive, hopefully the new one isn't too bad either

Yus totally! The DFGT was a bang on marketing win, it was an accessibly cheap, quality wheel with good features. They were like $250 or something at launch? I don't know exactly but they were really accessible and had pretty good features. Then Thrustmaster got the deal with GT5 and their T500 which was the "official wheel" but it was like $1,100! That's completely taking the piss, right? Polyphony f'd up in allowing Thrustmaster to restrict the accessibility of people wanting an entry level setup, in my humble opinion.

Just saying. :) Logitech are in my good books and Thrustmaster aren't.

The more I think and read about it, the more crabby I get about the fantasy cars in the game, especially among all the classes.
