Hey Guys,

An old veteran is returning to the console game, been eying up getting a PS3 for a while.  Before you say I can not simply afford a PS4 new or second hand so PS 3 is where I am looking at.

I need advise on what to do, what to look out for ect.  There are two consoles available locally in Tauranga that I can afford at the moment, both are from Cash Converters and ex-rentals.  I don't know enough about ex-rentals ect

Here is the link to both auctions:

(If this is in violation of the rules I apologize in advance)

http://www.trademe.c...n-852561517.htm

Are either of these worth considering, model number on the 320GB one is cech 2502a, not sure on the other one.

Any help, feedback ect please feel free to help me out

Cheers

Russell

depends how youre intending to use it. if you dont plan on downloading anything off psn and just buying discs, then size doesnt matter.

also id personally go with cashies, that way if the console is bung at least its easy enough to get your money back.

ah both from cashies lol. i have the 320gb, and its perfect for me, but i dont really download anything bigger than 1gb. you *may* wanna go bigger if you get carried away with a ps+ subscription or have it for a while or whatever, but to me 320gb has proven to be more than enough.

I guess it's not so much about the size, probably comes down to construction / age. Seems the red one might only be 1-2yr where as the other could be 2-4yr old

I have the same model as the red one, it's fine but I prefer The black ones model because of the automated front disc loading. Though I never had an issue with either model.

If you are downloading games old red is probably the best choice as even that 500gb HDD will disappear reasonably quick.

I've got a 320 GB slim (the first one) I've been trying to sell on trademe I can do a special NZG price for (have 8 disc games to go with it if you're interested too). I bought it in December 2013 and it has been well looked after.

You'll fill up the 320 GB fairly quickly if you're just going to download titles but luckily Sony makes it super easy to change out the HDD and upgrade to a 750 - 1000 GB if you need the space.

fallout 3 yes, rage maybe not, apparently its meh. if you like fallout, oblivion was the best of bethesdas efforts in my opinion, although the graphics might be dated for some. id recommend also checking out the psn, you might find some nice cheap retro stuff.

So since times have changed since PS2 era, can you give me a dummies guide.

What is PSN games?

Are they a full game, as some such as the newest Tombraider (2013) is like $9.90

Are they essentially a digital download like steam?

if yes, once downloaded can you play offline at no extra cost?

what are bundles? Are they full games ect?

Just want to make sure there are no extra charges after initial payment.

Sorry to sound like a newbie, but never had this back in my day..haha

Yep

Yep

what are bundles? Are they full games ect?
Yep

So there is an RE bundle with a sh*t tonne of games, they are all full games and it's great value if you like resident evil.

I lived FF13 but I am in a minority, Fallout 3 is a must play, the resistance games are great buuuuuuuut, they are getting old now so fall of man may look and play a bit crap.

Personal PS3 must plays:
Infamous and infamous 2
If you liked the above then prototype and 2
Heavy rain
FF13 and 13-2
South park the stick of truth (if you like or liked the show)
Batman arkham games
Gta v
Read dead redemption
The uncharteds
The last of us
Spec Ops the line (I can't recommend this enough, starts as generic shooter and becomes a must play experience)

There will be more but that's off the top of my noggin.

Oh and I liked beyond two souls a lot but that game was very polarising so you may not.
