The amount of our own tax money these parties are throwing in the air like it's theirs is amazing.

Ohhh, Nick Smith. "Nelson MP and Environment Minister Nick Smith says he has laid a complaint with police after rat poison was rubbed in his face and his family was threatened."

...then the video comes out.

Video of the "protestor rubbing rat poison on Nick Smith's face and clothes". Turns how he wiped his hands on his shoulder, but there didn't appear to be anything on his hands.

Read an article on Stuff where the people who did it say they did rub poison on his clothes but not his face. They say they threw it on the ground and in his caravan door too. I'm no lawyer but physically putting a substance that you know to be poison on someone has got to be some form of assault. And throwing a poisonous substance on the ground in a public place can't be right either. Nothing wrong with protesting but what they did was wrong.

So... NZ politics. What is the general consensus of last night? I wasn't too surprised with the result but I'm not entirely happy that good ol' Winnie is the kingmaker.

I feel the same way. Result was not surprising but really didn't want Winston to be king maker. Hope he doesn't drag the chain again, New Zealand deserves better than that.

Would've loved Winnie not being in that position at all, but could've been worse as a Green supporter :P

Not surprised. I just hope whoever teams with Winnie doesn't give too much.

It's good to see a stronger opposition. I think every side is better with a strong opposition. Let's see what the next 3 years makes.

Expect National to give Winston anything he wants to join their scumbag team.

Same. I think with Labour it was too little too late. I think leading up to the election they didn't expect to have a chance so didn't put in the work on their policies. So when Jacindamania hit, they were scrambling to put out policies and were light on detail so National exploited that. I think that if Labour keep their head, put in the work and under National we have three more years of the same, then barring something drastic happening, Labour should get in next time.

I feel for Green Party supporters. It's a real shame but at the end of the day, the leadership gambled and it didn't pay off.

Yeah, real bummer about the Maori party. If it wasn't for Hone Harawira splitting their vote a few years back with the Mana party I reckon they could have been on the level of NZ First or the Green Party but now.

Maybe but Hone Harawira turned a lot of people off them. I think it was the half step back with him this cycle that hurt them.

Weren’t they at about 15% after her speech? They’ve actually done incredibly poorly, Halved support since 2014 and about a 3rd from 3 months ago. Their numbers didn’t drop after her speech. They dropped after she admitted the residential address stuff ,and those 2 guys leaving the party. Sure theyre back in, but best case they probably end up as confidence and supply to a Labour NZF govt. People like the Greens as underdogs, but they’re pretty terrible at this sh*t tbh. Metiria takes 5 mins to think about her speech content and the flow on affect (and also realising the media’s going Leader hunting this year) and its a different election.

Funny how a lot of people talk about a Nat/ Greens govt which would remove Winston and also you know, get sh*t done for the environment. And from what I’ve seen the only people opposed to it are high and mighty Green supporters. Probably happier to just complain on Twitter for another 3 years.

The election went as I and most people expected. Not the way I’d hoped personally (my major issue is overseas buying - I’d like my kids to own a home) but if Winston’s in there, I assume that issue might get sorted regardless.

National did incredible honestly. Maybe a 1% drop from 2014 and Keys peak. That’s pretty amazing considering their leader and the hate they get online. Also looks like the youth vote is a myth.
