You guys going to Westfest would be doing yourself a favor to see Animals as Leaders. Some damn talented musicians, quite awe-inspiring live... like one big jazzy, shreddy, heavy metal dance party.

Probably another of my fav metal bands, funnily enough.

Saw these guys at King Arms with Periphery and Heavy Metal Ninjas (although I already knew who they were I never saw them live)

The sound they get even without a bass player is huge. As soon as Wave of Babies played the crowd went off.

edit: Just found some footage of the night -

AW f*** YOU PETEY. I was gonna get tickets but they sold out. Chick at Real Groovy said there was potentially gonna be door sales, so I showed up at the Kings Arms at 8pm... a day late. Biggest derps of my life.

I did get to see them supporting BTBAM about a year and a bit earlier though (who are my fav metal band as mentioned earlier in the thread), and that show was sick as f***. People got into them WAY more than BTBAM, as soon as they opened with Tempting Time half the room was bouncing & headbanging. I mean it's all instrumental so you don't need to know the music (ie. words) to appreciate them and just have a good time.

Also just realised I ain't even mentioned Trenches. They were one of the earlier sludgy, prog-ish bands I heard after those giants like Cult of Luna & Isis, but they've remained my fav post metal for goddamned years

Oh wicked. Would love to see them at a bigger venue. Even the Powerstation or something.

Great to see FFDP up there on the list, they are not as well known as the likes of Metallica. Honest to god my fave band.

a mate gave me Cenosphere's latest album for Xmas, they are a Wellington based death metal band

https://m.facebook.com/Cenosphere/

said mate is in the band but the album was recorded before he joined

the cds have been pressed and ready to sell but not quite on the market yet as the band is figuring out pricing and marketing, so I'm one of the first few people to hear the final product which is pretty cool

the album is awesome, brutal as, listening to it you wouldn't guess they are a Wellington band

Completely adore Avantasia at the moment. It's an Edguy side project with every song featuring someone different on vocals. Has a real classic Judas Priest feel to it. The focus is generally on a 2-3 album cycle played out as a rock opera.
