Man, This is a tough call for me as I enjoyed watching Wrestling for so many years. Had a Ring and like 40 odd wrestlers as a kid.

In no real order and my top 15 as I cant limit this to 5 (Sorry For screwing up the top5 theme) I would say...

Ultimate Warrior, Macho Man Randy Savage, The Hulk, Bret Heart, Stone Cold, Goldberg, Sting, Kevin Nash, The Rock,

Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Jake The Snake, The Undertaker, Booker T, DDP and Eddie Guerrero.

I kind of feel like im leaving so many people out too which makes me realise how much I used to love wrestling. Been a while since I watched any and I know nothing about who is popular now but Was awesome back in the Days.

A few memories I have Was when Sting and The Giant were tag team Champs but had a feud so decided they would face off and the winner would take the belts. The Giant come out smoking and blew smoke in the Stings face before the match. im pretty sure that Sting managed to do The Scorpion Death Lock, 2 Scorpion Death Drops and a Stinger Splash on him to eventually win. that streak by Goldberg back in the day was pretty immense too!

Was looking on youtube and found his debut to the WWE

That Commentary when he comes out!

But this when he beats Hogan for the Title! EPIC! The Crowd and I too were so relieved! That Diamond Cutter by Malone! OMG! Haha

Good thread, Ron!

I can keep this simple, no need for indepth analysis!

SO:

  1. Ultimate Warrior
  2. Hulk Hogan
  3. Macho Man Randy Savage
  4. The Rock
  5. Sting

My list could easily go on from there, but for a top 5 that's what they'd be. As you can see, I'm a kid of the 80's era. Those were good times.

Good times.

Hulk Hogan.... critcised nowadays and people scoff at his limited repertoire (but let's face it, how many genuine heavyweight were good technical wrestlers?), but when you are a kid, and Hogan was at his peak, slamming the super-heavyweights like Andre and Bundy at every PPV, superstars don't get much bigger

The Rock... I don't know if he is genuinely that funny in real life, or if he has assistance from great script writers, but I've watched him in and out of character while under the WWE payroll, and nobody is better on the mic... Even the likes of Jericho are pretenders in comparison.

Shawn Micheal... in combo with Marty Janetty, they did what no other team was doing in WWF... kinda the Hardy Boys before the Hardys.. as a singles competitor he dropped a bit of the high flying, and became more of a mat wrestler. Probably the first smaller wrestler to get a big push in that company post the whole Hogan/Warrior era of big muscley lead billed faces...

Chris Benoit.... regardless of what he did, and that he will always be remembered for that, and the industry will always distance itself from him because of it, he was the polar opposite to Hogan... a no nonsense, no talk light heavyweight that put on great technical matches with the likes of Malenko and Guerrero..

Rey Mysterio Jr... he isn't unique if you put him up against the japanese or mexican wrestling, but he was insane to watch in WWE/WCW.... The fact that he got a push, and was given wins against not just the bigger A-list guys, but superheavyweights like Nash, says something..

And that you did! :)

By generalisation of context though, I too also contributed, just not as concisely as yourself. Notably because I felt with my picks, due to popularity of character with audiences over the years, elaboration wasn't required ;)

I did enjoy you noting Kevin Nash. His acting in The Longest Yard remake was fantastic, and I'm glad he got to play the 'Obviously Based On Him' character of Bass in the Dead Or Alive movie, which I feel is heavily underrated as a video game film!
