Yeh fair enoughish. The googled articles I read tell me that there's anecdotal evidence to suggest electronic devices (not necessarily just phones and wi-fi ones) interfere with avionics but no scientific research has actually been published. Weird wh.Aren't you told to turn all electronic devices, specifically including laptops, off when you're on the tarmac? I always do even though I'm not sure if there's actually any effect to it. >_>
I'm not really a prude or anything but i would be kind of bothered by a nearby passenger watching freaky pornz or execution videos or some other such thing i thought was distasteful to be viewed in public. What can you do though, people these days don't have that respect for others anymore.
For the devices I know for national flights it's more they just need to be in flight mode once you leave the lobby and they don't advise them being out for take off or landing. I've sat on the tarmack tons of times with my Ipad and other stuff and they don't really care heck they've even stopped checking for flight mode over the last year. Think it's more a case of if there is a sudden bump during the process of taking off and landing and something occurs to said device they have warned you so it's your fault if it happens. Think they are still viable for tray tables though which is why they are so focused with them being stowed away from my travels.
