Death includes deathcore which although not as technical as Death Metal in general, is still a f***ing good genre. Glass Gasket and Gojira are both very good examples of awesome Deathcore.

my problem with deathcore is this generation of skinny rich american kids who believe they are good at writing 'metal' music and create the most br00tal song names/album covers when I'd rather just listen to some raw black/death metal instead which has way more substance than this myspace sh*t

Dethcore has its sh*t bands but also its good bands. You can't say a genre is bad because of some dicks who make it look terrible. If a band can make Deathcore sound awesome then it must be a good genre. This is a recommendation thread and imo there are Deathcore bands worth recommending.

Deathcore has some good bands. Not my particular style but there are a few gems. My main problem with the genre is that there are a vast amount of bands that really suck and sound exactly alike. The genre has stagnated so to speak.

Anyways, top five from said genres-

Prog (Not too big on Prog)-

Dream Theater
Fates Warning
Pain of Salvation
Maudlin of the Well
Communic

Death-

Cryptopsy
Immolation
The Chasm
Stargazer
Morbid Angel

Doom-

Reverend Bizarre
Electric Wizard
St. Vitus
Crowbar
Sleep

Thrash-

Kreator
Dark Angel
Vio-Lence
Morbid Saint
Sabbat

Black-

Countess
Wolves in the Throne Room
Burzum
Graveland
Leviathan

I'm only going to list bands from genres that I know really well, as otherwise I assume i'd just be posting quite common bands, and i'm sure the point of this thread is for people to discover newer bands.

Death
Sepultura
Death
Zyklon
Carcass (so more grind, but they deserve some mention here)
Nile

Thrash
Destruction
Blood Tsunami
Kreator
Sodom
PissChrist
Municipal Waste
Suicidal Tendencies

Black
Bathory
Emperor
Mayhem
Carpathian Forest
Xasthur
Blasphemy
Burzum
Darkthrone
Iskra
Nattefrost
Gallhammer
Hellhammer
Aura Noir
Sarcofago

I'd agree with Chris Redfield on Deathcore topic. Thanks guys for the recommendations. I got all the Death bands in Cheesetastics excluding Carcass which shouldn't deserve a mention in 'Death' imo.
My recommendations:

The Ocean (Prog) -Awesome drums
Porcupine Tree (Prog) -Recommended by Mikael Åkerfeldt
Agalloch (Doom) -Try Ashes against the Grain (album)
Atheist (Death) -You'd prob like if you like Cynic
Glass Gasket (Deathcore/Mathcore)
The Red Chord (Deathcore)
Ulver (http://www.last.fm/music/Ulver) - Black Metal, Electronic and experimental.
Unexpect (Black Metal, Death Metal and Progressive)
The Berzerker (Industrial Grindcore/Cybergrind) -Cybergrind should interest you enough.

Forgot to add Shining to that list.

Don't know how I forgot them. Minimalist black metal at its best... well, NEAR the best.

I'm pretty sure anyone who listens to good Metal knows of Opeth lol
And is Berzerker, Porcupine Tree and Unexpect not on the worthwhile list because you haven't heard them or you don't think they're worthwhile/not your taste?

They're not Worthwhile. Berzerker is all speed and no substance, mishmashed style. Unexpect are too spastic for their own good, cool on first listen but after that I realised the band is just random bullshit, there's no real reason to them and no real point in listening to them. Porcupine Tree simply bore me.

Porcupine Tree are a band you listen to when you're in the mood to listen to it. It's very soft. And yes, you're right about Berzerker but the drums are just so f***ing awesome. Unexpect is a band I haven't listened to much as of yet but have liked what I have heard from them. It's their progressive elements which make them good and from memory, you're "not too big on prog".

I'm not big on Prog because it is mostly a bullshit genre of technical wankery and trying to make the most complex layered songs. More often than not it falls on it's face. The name is stupid as well, since it is quite possibly the least progressive genre of metal.

Berzerker's drummer is good but he's all speed. I much prefer Flo Mournier or Derek Roddy as far as intense extreme drummers go.
