I don't know how many of you guys have seen 'Tripod' down the end of Courtney Pl, Wellington, but even if you have, have you noticed the special features on it?
Here's a quick rundown of what 'Tripod' is: ![]() There he is. Looks pretty menacing, doesn't he? ![]() He's pretty big! ![]() 'Tripod' was created by Weta to celebrate the Wellington film industry. So just them, then. Now, for the special features. If you look round the side of each of the legs, just a little above head height, you might notice a familiar shape. ![]() Here's a closer view: ![]() Of course, this could all be coincidence, right? I mean, maybe N64 controllers simply looked good? However, if you look on the back of each leg, you will find one of these: ![]() There's something different on each Game Boy. We tried to take pictures of the one with New Zealand on it, but the lighting was bad because of where the sun was; so we settled for this one instead. So there you have it, the secret Nintendo parts of the famous Tripod. Miyamoto would be proud. Maybe Tripod could be a selectable character in the next Super Smash Bros.? Just thought I'd share this with you, especially those of you that don't live in our capital. |

You can post it on your blog, but if you do, I ask that you only post a teaser and link to the forum for the rest. The only reason I ask that is because it'd be nice to get traffic for the site.

Hah, that's pretty cool. I wonder if there is anything else more out of sight (like on top, etc).

f*** that's mint.
I don't usually go down that far Courtney, but funnily enough I admired the Tripod a few days ago. I would never have guessed. Good sh*t, Weta. |

Well spotted. Last year the Workshop had the opportunity to create a sculpture as a tribute to the New Zealand Screen Industry and a landmark for our beautiful city.
The Weta design team had great fun presenting a range of concepts to the Wellington City Council. The design ultimately settled on was one inspired by the robots rattling around in designer Greg Broadmore’s mind. Greg chose to incorporate many common household items hidden within this 6 tonne bronze tripod – and some of his favourite little items are the pieces very cleverly spotted and shown here on this site.
